Dominique Crenn, the chef-proprietor of two Michelin-starred Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, focuses on cuisine as a craft and the community as an inspiration. Dominique Crenn sees herself as an artist, not just a chef; she thinks cooking is about poetry & art & nature.

A MULTI-SENSORY SPACE

Dominique Crenn said that the restaurant is just like her home; she meets her guest as her friends there. I inspired by that, to me, poetic is very implicit, so I designed this entrance. I don’t want people can enter directly from the busy street. First, you enter this hallway; there is also an outdoor dining area; in the back is an area for the restaurant to grow their vegetables.

RECEIPTION + BAR

Then you enter the space is the reception. Instead of using the solid wall to divide the area, people can see there is some view hidden behind the wall, but not completely see-thru, this is also my understanding of poetry, on the right side is a living room, the left side is the bar, just like our home, the first place you enter is always where you meet your guest, friend.

PRIVATE DINING

Private dining is for a special occasion only. My idea is to let is become a more personal experience. Guest have to make their reservation in advance, so the restaurant will preparing in advance. Not just about eating the food, but more like a five-sense experience, like make the table become a landscape itself.
